it's been too long, and yet sometimes, i still think about you. the words you say, the things you do.

i look back on the past entries in this blog, and i am overcome with mixed emotions. i loved you dearly, and it pained me to see you hurt.

but at the very end, you hurt me.

It's been too long since I've written in this space.

i used to fill this space up with so many words, so many thoughts, so much feelings.

a few times i've come back here, only to type a few words, backspace a little, then eventually closing the page. i find it hard to pen down my thoughts when i'm happy. i turn to facebook, i turn to tumblr, because that's where i see colours from pictures that evoke old happy feelings from memories that are seemingly fresh..and vivid. i also blame twitter. damn you, all 140 characters.

i blame it on technology because it allows me to update my thoughts real time, any time, any where. it's also ironic how i used to blame the new age for having blogs--we never write in those little diaries anymore. this is also where i blame technology for my bad handwriting.

the reason why i'm here at this late hour (time check: 5:55 am) is because...oh crap i forgot. but this is me now, i never stay focused on anything too serious for too long. this is also why i'm happy.

Happy is such a commonly overused, and abused word. i am happy, euphoric, and feeling out of this world. but i like the word Happy. i am therefore, happy.

i love facebook. i am always on facebook. i scroll through photos, updates, of everything, of everyone. ironically, i do not make friends on facebook. which kind of defeats the purpose, since it's a social networking site, right? but i have my social network--only not that big, and i'm happy with it. some people say facebook causes break ups. to that, i say "fast foods causes obesity, spoons make you choke and water drowns you."

it's all about learning to make the right decisions, no matter where you're at. i have made pretty bad decisions in my life, but that's how i learn to make better ones. we don't all need a scapegoat for our seven sins.

it's 6:13 am, and yet i still can't sleep. not the slightest hint of weariness. i've been told over and over, by everyone that my body clock is screwed. but really, all i did was travel into the past and the future (uncool reference: different GMT time zones). give me time, and i will sleep when that time comes.

sometimes though, i do feel like i run on batteries. it's not good for my body, but i also get so much down time it's not even funny. right now, i am on friggin' leave for eleven days. E-L-E-V-E-N. but it's all good, because i love it when it's just me and my music.

HOW TO BE ALONE by Tanya Davis

If you are at first lonely, be patient.

If you’ve not been alone much, or if when you were, you weren’t okay with it, then just wait.

You’ll find it’s fine to be alone once you’re embracing it.

We could start with the acceptable places, the bathroom, the coffee shop, the library.

Where you can stall and read the paper, where you can get your caffeine fix and sit and stay there.

Where you can browse the stacks and smell the books.

You’re not supposed to talk much anyway so it’s safe there.

There’s also the gym.

If you’re shy you could hang out with yourself in mirrors, you could put headphones in.

And there’s public transportation, because we all gotta go places.

And there’s prayer and meditation.

No one will think less if you’re hanging with your breath seeking peace and salvation.

Start simple. Things you may have previously based on your avoid being alone principals.

The lunch counter. Where you will be surrounded by chow-downers.

Employees who only have an hour and their spouses work across town

and so they — like you — will be alone.

Resist the urge to hang out with your cell phone.

When you are comfortable with eat lunch and run, take yourself out for dinner.

A restaurant with linen and silverware.

You’re no less intriguing a person when you’re eating solo dessert

to cleaning the whipped cream from the dish with your finger.

In fact some people at full tables will wish they were where you were.

Go to the movies. Where it is dark and soothing.

Alone in your seat amidst a fleeting community.

And then, take yourself out dancing to a club where no one knows you.

Stand on the outside of the floor till the lights convince you more and more and the music shows you. Dance like no one’s watching…because, they’re probably not.

And, if they are, assume it is with best of human intentions.

The way bodies move genuinely to beats is, after all, gorgeous and affecting.

Dance until you’re sweating, and beads of perspiration remind you of life’s best things,

down your back like a brook of blessings.

Go to the woods alone, and the trees and squirrels will watch for you.

Go to an unfamiliar city, roam the streets,

there are always statues to talk to and benches made for sitting

give strangers a shared existence if only for a minute and these moments can be so uplifting

and the conversations you get in by sitting alone on benches

might’ve never happened had you not been there by yourself.

Society is afraid of alonedom, like lonely hearts are wasting away in basements,

like people must have problems if, after a while, nobody is dating them.

But lonely is a freedom that breaths easy and weightless and lonely is healing if you make it.

You could stand, swathed by groups and mobs or hold hands with your partner,

look both further and farther for the endless quest for company.

But no one’s in your head and by the time you translate your thoughts,

some essence of them may be lost or perhaps it is just kept.

Perhaps in the interest of loving oneself,

Perhaps all those sappy slogans from preschool over to high school’s groaning

were tokens for holding the lonely at bay.

Cause if you’re happy in your head than solitude is blessed and alone is okay.

It’s okay if no one believes like you.

All experience is unique, no one has the same synapses, can’t think like you,

for this be relieved, keeps things interesting life’s magic things in reach.

And it doesn’t mean you’re not connected, that communities not present,

just take the perspective you get from being one person in one head and feel the effects of it.

Take silence and respect it. if you have an art that needs a practice, stop neglecting it.

If your family doesn’t get you, or religious sect is not meant for you, don’t obsess about it.

You could be in an instant surrounded if you needed it

If your heart is bleeding make the best of it.

There is heat in freezing, be a testament.

so now that i am back from india and am too stubborn to leave the computer and get some actual hibernating rest, i shall try updating this void in the Internet i call my blog.

the past 5 months flew by quicker than i could have said, "HEY, LOOK! I'VE GOT A JOB!". and if you ask me, all i remember about my job is how i smile insanely to myself every time i open the doors to my hotel rooms. there aren't many steps to settling in.

1. knock thrice on the door. you should always let spirits know that you are entering the premises, should they be there. if they're friendly enough, they might knock back.

2. enter the room.

3. close the door.

4. do a jiggly dance.

5. play with all the switches in the room, and check out what's free to take. and you're in no position to judge--i'm only singaporean.

on a side note, my helper at home asked a very serious question. "do you take orders from passengers then go to the kitchen to cook in the plane?"

i munched on my crunchy garlic peas and couldn't answer. the peas were so good.

on another side note, i saw a beautiful north indian baby on my aisle today. i couldn't be sure if it was a boy or a girl, but it was beautiful nonetheless. the moment i saw Beautiful in daddy's arms, i wanted to grab it and run far away. run past airport security and travel into a lost island and keep it in a tower where it will be mine forever. but not before throwing it into the air a dozen times or so. i eventually found out from mommy that it's a She. regardless. fixed a bassinet for her and all the while in my head were video montages of her being my child.

i might have some slight issues.

recovered after i was told that i had to fold triangles on toilet rolls.

and after procrastinating since 2004, i finally had the chance to gain a little more muscle on both arms. i realised that it's so much easier toning your body when your only goal was to pull the meal cart up 60 rows at an 8 degree angle upwards. mind over matter. muscle also reminds me how hazam mentioned about 'glutes' and 'triceps'. i told him i only knew 'arms' and 'legs'. and glutes only remind me of Gluten-Free Meals. true story.

i see.

i should probably go. people of my sort are very weird. or you can say that our job is thoroughly exhausting. a colleague told me she slept for 2 days and woke up wondering which day and what time it was. another true story. i personally feel that 2 days is a bit much. i usually just sleep 16 hours or so. that's not a lot, right? we don't get to bring work home anyway.

CUT MY HAIR on valentine's day! had long john silver's after with gavin. i love fries and gavin.

gone through four courses and countless assessments over the short span of 3 months, and the 27th of March 2011 marks the beginning of my real journey. the speed of training is akin to..well, a plane taking off.

i have gained knowledge i would never have had access to just by sitting at a table, and i am taught life lessons much quicker by experiencing them rather than talking about them.

i'm extremely glad that i'd been given an opportunity to see the world, whichever fashion it may be in.

and also, i am now a certified first aider. :)

i'm sorry i haven't done the laundry today. truly am. anyway, they finished your portion of the stingray i cooked, so i cooked a tomato omelet for you. i just don't understand why you had to mash it up ferociously just because you were angry though. it was weird, and very awkward for me to sit through your erratic behaviour. also, i hope you haven't got breathing problems because you were sighing so much it seemed like you were panting. i know, laundry's no laughing matter.

remember the other time i forgot to put in softener in the laundry load? you screamed at me at the top of your lungs for 20 minutes, and told me that i should move out if i'm not committed to the family. i have now realised the importance of having softer laundry. my bad.

is such that I've had one of the best times of my life yesterday, and today's the only day of 2010 I'm crying buckets.

the irony of my life, is such that I've just turned 22 yesterday, and am treated as the most irresponsible teenager around today.

the irony of life, is such that parents are supposed to be the most encouraging kin closest to you, but my dad just told me, "no matter how you think you may be right, it's still wrong in our (parents') eyes."

the irony of life, is such that parents are supposed to console their children every time they get hurt, where their hearts are supposed to drop like a string of pearls when they see their children cry. on the contrary, I've trained myself to cry away from my parents, because I know that it's the invitation for harsher words.

the biggest irony of all--is that despite loving my parents, I still yearn to be away from them. i must have already matured progressively since the age of 14, the age where running away from home on a whim, is at prime.

I am now officially 22 years of age. and it is, ironically, my greatest goal in this insignificant life to preserve my life.

A 22nd birthday wish

On the morning of August 19, I woke up with a thought in my head. A thought to help someone—anyone, out there. The perfect opportunity came when I came across charity:water, a non-profit organisation that brings clean and safe drinking water to people in developing nations. All it needs is for September babies to give up their birthdays and ask for donations instead of gifts.

USD$200 may not be a significant amount in this large-scaled project by charity:water, or for anyone, but this might be deemed as one of my greatest feats in time of my existence. Nonetheless, along with faith in mankind (and my Facebook friends), I will work hard for the attainment of this little goal.

as many would have known from the very early stages of childhood (or your mom), hunching your back is a very bad habit indeed. it begets bad posture and conveys the impression of sloth and lethargy. i have come to realise thus far that even the most attractive who hunch are not very attractive actually (i'm not talking about models here, they look good even in 'i have period cramps' or couture poses). hence, in my hunched posture, i have now vowed to sit/stand straight as long as i remember. I WILL NOT SUCCUMB TO LAZY MUSCLES!

side note. have also realised that there are more annoying adolescents who change their last names in facebook. i have seen, for e.g., mary eatsfries, or mary kicksyourass, or (wait a minute let me find some from my sister's facebook friends list) mary shutyouup.

Pressure

i'm just done with a 51 page report due for submission later in the afternoon, and i have another exploratory study and 2 individual reports due on friday. i work very well with pressure, but the late night tolls and excessive eating makes me feel like jupiter with craters.

so anyway, now with less than a few weeks till the end of school (if i don't fail any modules), i'm getting asked this question a lot: "so what are you going to do now?". or sometimes, "so what job are you going to take up?".

normally i'll just answer things like, "anything related to my study," but in my head i'm actually thinking THE LAST THING I WANT TO DO NOW IS TO FIND A JOB AND WORK.

call me lazy, call me unambitious, call me the valedictorian of procrastination--i don't care. i wouldn't mind being a homemaker all my life and take pride in keeping my nest clean. and honestly, SO WHAT if i get a job? and so what if i don't want to get a job?

i used to visualise myself as a career woman, doing very well in my career with a great family to love. but as i ~~matured~~ grew up, i realised that all i want to do is to be the best homemaker ever. 我只是个小女人。people might think, "that puts your bachelors to waste,". if knowledge is acquired, it's never going to be rendered useless. and what makes you think, in the first place, what you learnt was useful? you're only after that paper, aren't you?

people tell me about their plans all the time--big plans. they want to excel in their career, start a business, or maybe be an SQ girl. scratch the last one, it's no plan.

just take a look at yourselves. are you where you wanted to be 5 years ago? will you be where you want to be 5 years later? or even a year from now? ARE YOUR PLANS EVEN WORKING? no one will have the answer, because no one knows for sure, so never be too quick to judge before you succeed yourself.

some people have the biggest dreams; but they are only dreams. they always have expectations, but they never want to take what's coming at them. you're young, and there's no point being that stressed about the future; unless you're having a baby tomorrow.

and also, stress makes you ugly.

Tonight, I saw:

And 4:44 am.

True story. The day I see this repetition happen 24 times in a row will be the day I catch a glimpse of myself, into the future, shouting, "I see it! I see the numbers. I SEE THE NUMBERS!" to a wary patrolling guard outside my asylum cell, then fast retreating to the padded corner to rock myself with hands over my ears.

Very dramatic. But it happens in my head all the time. T understands this insanity. I also had mushroom and cheese prata with my girlfriends and boyfriend at simpang bedok tonight.

Nothing can beat this love.
